Map of Firing Centers

Ceramics is a process. The production of ceramics is a journey from an idea, clear awareness and need, through emotion and mental relaxation to a tangible object that will stay with you forever. And you may be creating, but you lack the facilities, a ceramic kiln! That's why we have put together places that can help you - fire your works and perhaps provide valuable advice.

Do you create ceramics but lack a kiln? On the map, you will find places that have a kiln for firing ceramics and porcelain. These places are public institutions or experienced individuals who master the craft at a professional level. The map aims to connect you as a beginner potter with someone who has been in the craft for a longer time. Ask them for help, and they may share experiences that will advance you. Come to them with your products, and they may offer to teach you a skill that will make your products better and more precise. Visit them and check out their studio, and you may confirm that you want to step into craft production. They may become your mentor.
We Had Our Mentor TooAlthough we have twenty years of experience with ceramics and Nikol is a trained ceramist, when entering professional production, we were looking for a place where we could have our products fired. At that time, we were saving for a new kiln (70,000 CZK) and then waited about two months for it. Our mentor became Pavel Bazůšek, who has been creating and experimenting with clays and glazes for many years. Thanks to Pavel, we corrected many mistakes and advanced significantly.
Relationships as Support for the CraftThe original idea of the map is not just to find a ceramic kiln for firing. It is primarily to rekindle the craft. Traditional crafts are still experiencing a declining trend. Various opportunities and motives to gather, talk about the craft, and experience it make a lot of sense - they create interest, align ideas and expectations, and support the younger generation to engage in the craft at a professional level.
Progress in DesignThanks to establishing relationships between (often) traditional potters listed on the map and you as a beginner potter, even professionals can experience progress in their craft. How? They come into contact with modern ceramic product design, think outside the box, and discover something they haven't tried yet. The positive impact is not only for you; you also have something to offer in return!
The project is financially supported by the statutory city of Brno
