Experience Wheel Throwing for Kids

The clay spins and the kids laugh. A bit like a ride on the swing carousel.

We want to give kids their first real encounter with the potter's wheel, with no expectation that they'll instantly become little potters. This is a one-off 90-minute experience workshop for children aged 4 and up, where they'll mainly find out what it's like to sit down at the wheel, start it up and get the clay really spinning.

For the littlest ones we'll create a safe space full of clay, water, laughter and discovery. The instructor will stay close to your child the whole time, help them at the wheel, show them what they can do with the clay and give them their full attention so they enjoy those 90 minutes as much as possible.

And what will we do? Spin, squeeze, pull, shape, squish and, of course, splash a bit of water around. The clay will spin like a merry-go-round and kids can find out everything their hands can do once it all really gets going beneath them.

And what will your child take home?

Maybe a piece. Maybe just clay under their fingernails and a great experience. Both count.

At the start, it's not about producing a perfect bowl or mug. It's about your child sitting down at the wheel and really finding out what it's like to get the clay spinning and work with it on the move.

But if something comes out that they want to keep, we'll save it, of course. We'll let the piece dry, fire it and let you know when it's ready to pick up. And if they feel like it, you can come back later to decorate and glaze their very first ceramic creation.

And maybe on the way home you'll hear:

“Mum, Dad, when can I go throwing again?”

And what if the wheel really grabs your child?

Then it doesn't have to stop at one experience. Older kids who want to try throwing or take it further can carry on with our wheel throwing practice lessons.

There we can focus more on what your child would like to achieve on the wheel, what they enjoy and where they want to go next. The instructor will adapt to them, and together you can gradually discover everything the wheel has to offer.

Practice lessons are suitable for children aged 10 and up, when they can safely reach the pedal and concentrate more on working at the wheel.

So feel free to start with one afternoon. Maybe it'll just be a fun experience. And maybe this is where a little ceramic adventure begins.

Cancellation policy and make-up sessions

For this workshop we are unable to offer a make-up session. Every place is reserved for you in advance, and once it's taken we can no longer offer it to anyone else.

For this reason the cancellation fee is 100 % of the course price. Please treat your booking as a final decision – it will help you avoid unnecessary complications.

Withdrawal from purchase:

If you purchase the course online, you have the legal right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days of purchase and request a refund to your account.
